Me and My Microbes: The Zoo Inside You

Did you know? There are more microbes in the human body than stars in the Milky Way! These tiny organisms inside us affect our digestion, fight off disease and even influence your mood. Explore the astonishing biodiversity of the human ecosystem in the Canadian premiere of Me and My Microbes.

About the Experience

Foot cheese? Belly button lint?! Daily presentations help you learn about the tiny, but mighty, microbes inside you.

It’s all about what you eat! Challenge yourself to keep a microbiome healthy in this hands-on game. What’s the best choice at mealtime, broccoli, or pickles?

Discover the many ways that microbes heal and protect us with an interactive 14-foot projection of a human body. You can zoom in on 17 animated microbial scenes.

Our museum scientists don’t only study the big stuff but also some neat microscopic organisms. Watch live cultures grow in petri dishes!

Ticket $6 + museum admission.
Free for members and Tiny Tots (ages 0–2).

Exhibition open during regular hours.
Tue. – Sun: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Minutes after you brush, Streptococcus mutans attaches to crevices in your teeth. If you snack on too many sweets between meals, you are feeding the bacteria that cause cavities.

Helicobacter pylori

The stomach is a highly acidic environment, and Helicobacter pylori is one of the few bacteria that can thrive there.

Used to produce foods such as yogurt and pickles, Lactobacillus bacteria also appear in many places in the microbiome.
