Close.Bugs Alive
Our rose-haired tarantula, hissing cockroaches and their friends have moved to a bright, refreshed space.
Colourful and cheerful, Bugs Alive is an engaging, live exhibition of various insects, arachnids, and millipedes.
The "new kids on the block" and stars of the show are our new leafcutter ants! Next to human civilization, leafcutter ant colonies are the most complex societies on earth. These busy little farmers use leaves to grow fungus which serves as food for their larvae. They can strip as much as 17% of the leaf biomass from plants in their ecosystem and can clear entire trees in under a day! View these remarkable insects at work in their specially-designed habitat.
Also on display are live Hercules beetles, death feigning beetles, katydids, stick insects, Malaysian jungle nymphs, horrid king assassin bugs and more!
This interactive space includes a microscope and specimens station, and a giant, climbable model of a Hercules beetle that's perfect for a photo op!
