How to Submit a Nomination

  • Complete the nomination form
  • You may submit an application or a nomination for a third party
  • Deadline: June 4, 2021 11:59 pm, Pacific daylight time (UTC−07).

We are accepting nominations in the following categories:

Categories and Eligibility Requirements for Nominees

Youth Award

Supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

  • Must be 17 years or younger on December 31, 2020
  • Must be a resident of Canada
  • In the case of a group nomination, all participants in the group must meet the eligibility requirements.

Adult Award

Supported by BDO Canada LLP.

  • Must be 18 years or older on December 31, 2020
  • Must be a resident of Canada.

Not-for-Profit Organization (Small and Medium) Award

Supported by Ontario Power Generation.

  • Must be at least one year old on December 31, 2020
  • Must have a Canadian head office
  • Must have between 1 and 49 employees, or between 1 and 49 volunteers.
  • Must be a non-profit organization registered with Canada Revenue Agency.

Not-for-Profit Organization Award (Large)

Supported by Polar Knowledge Canada (POLAR).

  • Must be at least one year old on December 31, 2020
  • Must have a Canadian head office
  • Must employ 50 people or more
  • Must be a non-profit organization registered with Canada Revenue Agency.

New! Community-Action Award

Supported by NASCO Building Cleaning Inc.
The Community-Action category celebrates not-for-profits that have made a significant impact for nature at the local, regional, or community level. Small not-for-profits with specific projects or dedicated initiatives are encouraged to apply in this category. Organizations applying in this category do not need to be incorporated, are not required to have paid staff, and can be volunteer-run.

  • Must be at least one year old on December 31, 2020
  • Must have a Canadian head office
  • Must employ 1 or more staff or volunteers, but does not need to have paid staff and may be volunteer-run
  • Must be a not-for-profit organization, but does not need to be registered with Canada Revenue Agency.

New! Sustainable-Business Award

Supported by The Mosaic Company.
The Sustainable-Business Award celebrates processes and/or products that businesses across Canada have taken/created in support of nature. Whether it is a new sustainability initiative, a product made from sustainable materials, or even a product to address a current environmental challenge, tell us how your business is first and best in class in its environmental initiatives.

  • Must be at least four years old on December 31, 2020
  • Must sell a product or service
  • Must have a Canadian head office
  • Must employ 1 or more paid employees
  • Must be a company incorporated with Canada Revenue Agency.

Selection Criteria

The Nature Inspiration Awards recognize individuals and organizations that, through their work on specific projects, encourage Canadians to

  • take an interest in natural history
  • create links with nature
  • contribute to the preservation of nature.

For each category, nominees will be assessed against the following criteria:

Leadership
Must have demonstrated initiative in the fields of natural sciences, environment or nature protection at a local, national or international scale.

Innovation
Must have used novel approaches in the implementation of actions or programs for the benefit of nature.

Inspiration
Must have encouraged other people or organizations to get involved for the benefit of nature.

Supporting Documents

You are encouraged to provide supporting documents that illustrate the nominee's achievements.

Supporting documents should include one or more of the following:

  • one to five photos with the best resolution possible
  • one to five video files, or a link to a broadcasting site (such as YouTube) for a total duration of five minutes or less
  • one to three news articles, letters of recommendation, or other written documents, totalling five normal pages maximum.

Videos and image files must be uploaded onto a file-sharing site such as Google Drive or Dropbox.

The documents submitted may be used by the museum for purposes of promotion of the Nature Inspiration Awards.

The museum does not disclose the nominees' personal contact information to the public.

Important Note
The employees of the Canadian Museum of Nature (and its affiliated or related entities) and members of their family are not eligible to apply for the Nature Inspiration Awards. In this context, family means the spouse, partners, parents, children, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
