DUTIES: The position is responsible for: Working closely with the Entomology Research Scientist to support research activities such as organizing, sorting, preparing, mounting, identifying and shipping specimens (primarily beetles); conducting DNA analyses; managing data and databases for import into the CMN Collections database; participating in the preparation of publication, including scientific illustrations and/or photographic images; acquiring scientific equipment and supplies; organizing and participating in field work; and supervising and training of undergraduate, graduate and co-op students, volunteers, and interns. EDUCATION: Completion of a minimum of a M.Sc. in Zoology, with specialization in insect systematics, with a strong emphasis on Coleoptera, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: English. French would be an asset |

EXPERIENCE : · Experience (minimum 3 - 5 years) in working with large insect collections, including care, collecting and research. · Experience in taxonomic classification and identification of insects, with emphasis on Coleoptera. · Experience with specific equipment (scanners, digital cameras, dissecting and compound microscopes, imaging systems), and various laboratory and field collecting techniques, as it pertains to insect research. · Experience with phylogenetic and DNA barcoding analysis of molecular data, with particular reference to insects. · Experience in careful handling preserved natural history specimens with appropriate health and safety procedures and safe operation of laboratory equipment. |
