Glenn runs the joint Canadian Museum of Nature–University of Ottawa microanalysis lab and assists the mineralogy team with micro-chemical analysis and fieldwork.

Specialties

  • Microanalysis and imaging of minerals and materials using a variety of techniques.
  • Image analysis and processing.
  • Sample preparation.

Education

  • M.Sc., Geology, McGill University, 1989.
  • B.Sc. (Hons), Geology, University of New Brunswick, 1984.

Profile

Glenn manages the joint Canadian Museum of Nature–University of Ottawa microanalysis laboratory on the University of Ottawa campus. This important resource is used by museum researchers, university staff and students, and a wide variety of external clients in fields ranging from archaeology to mineral processing. The instrumentation in the lab is used for the examination and identification of minerals and other materials, and to describe the chemicals that make them up. Glenn's work with museum and external colleagues involves the chemical characterization of rare or undescribed mineral species. He also contributes to the production of outreach material, including the development of scientific content for the museum's Earth Gallery.

Outside of the lab, Glenn assists museum researchers with field collection at localities in Canada, as well as in far-off countries such as Norway, Thailand and Cambodia.

Professional Services

  • Microanalysis and imaging of minerals and materials.
  • Co-editor, American Mineralogist New Mineral Names.
