Online Collection Data

Several Web sites provide online access to data from several of the Canadian Museum of Nature's collections. Basic catalogue information is available, such as catalogue number, scientific name, collector, date collected, province, latitude and longitude.

Animals

Access to data associated with many of the museum's North American specimens is provided through Species Access Canada (of the Canadian Biodiversity Information Facility):

• Anura (frogs and toads): approximately 17 374 records
• Birds: approximately 88 335 records
• Fish: approximately 43 356 records
• Unionoida (freshwater clams): approximately 6299 records

(These data may also be found at the Global Biodiversity Information Facility's Data Portal. This site permits searching across several world-wide collections and allows the user to download records).

Palynology

Access to data associated with the museum's palynology collection is provided by Artefacts Canada (of the Canadian Heritage Information Network) in approximately 14 500 records. Fossil and modern pollens are included in the collection.

Plants, Protists and Fungi

Access to data from the museum's National Phycology Collection of Canada is provided by the museum:

• Algae, diatoms: approximately 170 000 specimens

Access to data associated with many of the museum's specimens is provided through Species Access Canada (of the Canadian Biodiversity Information Facility):

• Algae, Bryophytes, Lichens, Vascular Plants: 119 408 records

The museum has contributed data to E-Flora BC, an electronic atlas of the plants of British Columbia:
