The Hidden Life of Ants
July 26, 2013 – January 5, 2014
Amazing large-scale colour photographs reveal the hidden life of ants, in this special travelling exhibition from the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History.
Learn about these abundant, busy creatures as they hunt, communicate, deal with disease and tackle agriculture.
Using a macro lens, ant expert and adventurer Mark Moffett has captured their complex, societal lifestyle in spectacular imagery.
Check out touchable oversized ant models and a three-dimensional aluminum cast of an ant nest.
And as a special treat (with much ANTicipation) we have two live ant colonies in the exhibition! The harvester ants have the most powerful sting of any ant in North America. The honeypot ants use their own bodies as living storage.
Fun, information, alive and crawling with excitement! Come explore the hidden life of ants.
