September 28 – May 5
Nature Unleashed focuses on four types of disasters: earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes and tornadoes. These phenomena are the spectacular results of the forces that drive our ever-changing planet and dramatically affect the lives of everyone around the world.
Engaging interactive displays and animations show how the forces and the natural phenomena work. Generate a virtual volcanic eruption, monitor earthquakes around the world in real time, simulate a tsunami, stand in the centre of a roaring tornado, and witness the power of hurricane-force winds.
Poignant, large-scale images, cultural artefacts and inspiring survivor stories bring home the realities of recent disasters by revealing how people adapt to living at risk and respond to natural disasters. The damaged objects recovered from recent and ancient events offer an awe-inspiring sense of the immense power involved.
From ancient Pompeii to today's New Orleans, get the scoop on the science behind the history and the headlines. Find out how science is helping to better predict, respond to and prepare for future events. The exhibition illustrates how much we know—and how much we are still learning—about nature's terrifying power.
Prepare yourself for a memorable and powerful experience as Nature Unleashed immerses you in the forces of geology and weather that have shaped our planet and our lives.
