New Commemorative Coin Presents Feathered Dino from Canadian Museum of Nature

October 06, 2010—The Canadian Museum of Nature has teamed up again with the Royal Canadian Mint for a new dinosaur commemorative coin.
The keepsake features Sinosauropteryx, one of the first feathered dinosaurs to be unearthed in China—just one of many amazing dinosaurs on display in the museum’s Talisman Energy Fossil Gallery. The gold coin uses lenticular technology to create a stunning motion effect. With a slight tilt of the coin, the Sinosauropteryx springs to action and runs off with its prey. See the motion effect in a video clip from the Royal Canadian Mint web site.
This unique souvenir is presented in a full-colour folder that also includes six trading cards of other dinosaurs in the gallery. It’s a perfect gift that will engage amateur dinosaur hunters and enthusiasts alike.
The new Sinosauropteryx coin is available for $24.95 through the museum’s online catalogue at nature.ca, or through the museum’s Nature Boutique, located at 240 McLeod Street in Ottawa. Also available is an earlier coin in the series that features the museum’s fearsome carnivore, Daspletosaurus torosus.
