natureTASTES launches on October 15 at the Canadian Museum of Nature with a delicious look at the botany of beer

October 7, 2015The Canadian Museum of Nature is launching a new program for adults that offers a fun, delicious, and botanical perspective on some of our favourite beverages: beer, whiskey, wine and gin.

The new series, natureTASTES, kicks off on October 15 at 7:00 PM with tutored tastings of some popular local craft beers.

Museum botanist Paul Sokoloff will explain the role that hops and malt play in the brewing of various ales. He will also share some fun facts about new flavourings emerging these days in the craft brewing industry.

"Brewing and botany have long gone hand in hand," says Sokoloff. Nowadays we're seeing a lot of creativity in specialty beers. You may have gone to a tasting before, but this one offers some fun facts and science!"

The sampling of beers provided by Beau’s, Big Rig, Mill Street and Kichesippi breweries will be guided by an expert Taster. The samples will be paired with edibles that enhance the unique characteristics of each beer. Representatives from each brewery will also be on hand to answer questions.

Look for the next edition of natureTASTES on November 12 on the theme of whiskey (Feb. 18 – wine; March 10 – gin). Each will feature a museum expert providing insights along with industry representatives.

Prices may vary for each different event. Tickets for the October 15th natureTASTES on beer are $35 each (plus tax). Purchase tickets online at nature.ca.
