Advisory to the Neighbourhood–West Side Update

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

Please note that the Canadian Museum of Nature has received approval in principle from the National Capital Commission to proceed with the construction of a temporary surface parking lot on the west side of its property. This follows review of a proposed five-year concept for the area (4.2 Mb PDF) that also includes landscaping of greenspace.

The proposal was presented at a public information session on September 16, 2013. The overall plan will reduce the footprint of the currently available parking on the west side, and maximize the remaining area for public use.

The museum's goal is to complete the construction of the parking lot and its immediately adjacent green infrastructure before July 1, 2014. Construction will begin in spring 2014.

The concept plans also include the Regions of Canada Garden and an Arctic sculpture. These two elements are subject to a separate approval process.

The concept plans and other information about the west side can be viewed at nature.ca/west.

Sincerely,

Margaret Beckel,
President and CEO
